One Single Impression: Listening

still not sleepy?

go outside
and put your
ear to the earth
you can hear
puddles vibrating
with insects

close your eyes
for a moment
you can hear
cobalt sky opening
to a starling’s
brush stroke

take a stroll
beyond the city limits
You can hear
wheat ripening
in the field
not yet
bread.

Photographer: Cayce from malaysia

listen!
in the wee hours
if you are very still
and not trying
to write good poetry
you can hear
a song behind a song

I am just imagining listening at the puddle. So sensitive and beautiful. Thanks.

You have presented wonderful imagery to these tired old eyes Gabrielle, thank you for a lift this early morning.

I think you have done both - listened in a deeper way and written a good poem. A very good poem.

These are both beautiful. You have such a gift for conveying delicate meaning. For some reason the comparison I want to make here is that it is like a fine, delicately wrought filagree (did I spell that right?). In any case, it's beautiful.

This was a beautiful spring song ... and with nature, nothing could be better.
