First Rays

Thank you Christine of Quiet Paths for this week’s prompt, windows. Please go now and drink in the light of words.

morning stroll in old San Juan, Puerto Rico, spring 2007

The Dancer

schefflera
coaxes her green body
through rigors
in a blinded room
becoming crooked
for light

The Dormer

white moths flicker
silky, translucent
moving seamlessly
through the hours

loss floats
in aspic
and gravity
is negotiable

First Rays

Easing
the louvers:
a host of
top stitched shadows
breaks loose
of promise
and tumbles
into morning

But that seems like an awful lot of doings and goings on in the morning. I certainly hope you had your coffee before adjusting the plants and making your toast and rush for the bus.

So evocative, I can feel myself in that morning, that room, and the feeling that opening the shutters brings. excellent!

The dancer, the dormer, and the first rays are friends of both the morning and the walker. You may have to repeat this tomorrow to approach getting the total affect.
You have me walking along,
..

Gabrielle,

I could not believe the first poem as I read it. I had three sheffleras just like that living in my home. No matter what I did, they struggled. My brother has them now and they are flourishing. Life and art truly merged for me here.

i feel the warmth of the dancer, the dormer...and most of all, the blessed words in that first ray of light :)

Well, you made me go look up "schefflera." I tried the dictionary first, with no luck, and then the internet. Bingo! It even told me that this plant will seek out the light and become spindly if it can't get enough of it!

So, your poem is full of images. I like the line, "gravity is negotiable." And I like the idea of all of it "tumbling into morning." I frequently do this from my bed.

I like the second one (The Dormer), there's beautiful imaginary there and it a bit sad in some way

Lovely and deep as always. How I wish gravity were negotiable for me. Some days it feels very heavy.
