Thank you Beth, for the prompt,” avatar”.
The Sanskrit noun avatāra is derived from the verbal root tṝ "to cross over", joined with the prefix ava "off , away , down".
Interview
“If you could be any animal
what would you be?”
I thought about it
carefully considered
my options
I knew
the right answer
knew
what she wanted me to say:
"lion"
knew
if I said lion
it would be a shoe in
I spoke plainly
through my throat:
”dolphin"
she looked injured,
why a dolphin?
water,
I said.

You made me smile in your avatar interpretation? why a dolphin and not a lion?
does it mean of your character?
btw, it's a nice avatar interview... :)
I could go with aqua living mammal, though I would choose a sperm whale. To big to be put on the screen and when on radar I'd loo like a big boat.
I love this - especially the ending. Really nice, Gabrielle.
Kat
:) Loved the idea!
Now that's a great ending. Loved it.
Interesting thoughts regarding what animal we would be. After thinking, I am not sure. The three dimensional world of the ocean does sound nice.
This poem was inspired by an actual job interview I had near the beginning of my career. I was applying to lead the nursing department of a home health service. This question was posed towards the end of the interview. By that time, I had gotten a sense that the company was interested in a top down approach. My style is much more collaborative. It brought to mind the playful fluid social groupings of cetaceans.
Oh the water!

I like your interpretation of this prompt! It's fun to veer away from what is expected...
Yeah. We choke on our dreams sometimes. What do we want for ourselves, what do we think others want from us? Wow.
i love this
how wonderful to be brave enough to honor our truth
