Serenity Prayer

Today am I tossing
out the rough
draft
of words which weren’t spoken
of memories that would defend
of wild mulberry where I hid

On sheer Thursday
will I shred all
evidence
of a building’s blind pitching
of fingers closely stitched
of book tossed beds where I laid

Count out the times
when I sober tried
to locate you
in the spotless wind
that ruffled
green lapped shingles

Now come I clear
to this place
to remove the stone
How keenly fixed I am
to erase
every last trace
of you.

written for 3 word wednesday: serenity locate, draft

Hi Sandy. Thanks so much for stopping by. It may be difficult to make sense of this poem without any context. It is about a daughter’s longing for her mother. The relationship is not reciprocal. And the daughter decides to move on. I hope this piece held some meaning for you.

I'm glad I read your comment Gabrielle ... that context makes it even more powerful.

Good to see you back here!

Thanks for your visit and for your kind words. It's good to be back!

This poem, gritty and visceral as it is, turned out to be an easy write. And I am glad for it.

beautiful...love these lines:

Count out the times
when I sober tried
to locate you
in the spotless wind
that ruffled
green lapped shingles

I am so glad you enjoyed them Sandra.
It was in these lines that I was trying to convey the feeling of utter futility of longing for a mother who was a phantom.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope all is well!
