in green reefs

Expect nothing. Live frugally on surprise.”  Alice Walker
*

When i was twelve
i had a friend
i could talk to
on any darkened hour
the light was confessional
She sang belle canto
in green reefs
set lacy ossicles
humming
like a hive

I liked keeping
a diary
under lock and key
an overgrown wading pool
My breast,
My early bride
My full cold moon

Now
i ladle porridge
into slurried heath
bowls Please
feel free
toast the grain
simmer in full fat milk
garnish with cinnamon
currants, cream.

I love the water: reef and depths and heath that run through this tale.

Sometimes people have such a profound influence on our sense of self we feel somehow less without them. This is a most original approach to the prompt.

i love the feel to this entire piece and ~

"Please feel free toast the grain simmer in full fat milk garnish with cinnamon currants, cream."

there is something inexplicably elegant in the ending. LOVE it!
