starter culture

Thanks to Gautami Tripathy of Rooted for this week's prompt, reincarnation.

starter culture

she called it sour milk
placed a heavy rimmed
glass of lucidity
on the radiator
little did I know
it was a starter culture

From a childhood memory of my mother making what she called “sour milk“. A type of yogurt. Once you have the starter culture, it lives forever…or as long as you keep it going. I see this as a metaphor for infusing “culture” or essence, into life with consciousness and purpose.

What a lovely thought - it keeps on going and nourishing indefinitely.

I just ran to get two loaves of sourdough out of the oven before I wrote this. What a good idea for this prompt.

And Gabrielle, then did she make yogurt to eat or was it to use for something else? I don't know how to make sourdough bread but Sandy (above) must know.
I think Mrs. Jim has used sourdough starter before but not from using just the sour milk. She got her 'starter' from someone else.

That is a nice thought of starting something that will last like that.

All of everything has to begin somewhere. All of everything needs to be kept going for it to continue. Some cultures need to be restarted in a different glass.

Nice piece Gabriel. Good thinking behind it.

It is amazing what we can create from a small seed or idea. Sometimes deciding to "plant" is the hardest thing. I appreciate your comments on my blog. Sometimes I have a hard time getting my thoughts out in so few, meaningful words. My best.

I love finding the circle in things, the blurring of endings with beginnings.

So nice to meet you, Gabrielle.

amazing. i'm helpless to apply this to endless 'starter' ideas.
